Plans temporarily unavailable

Our network partner for Venezuela is under maintenance, so we have paused sales here rather than sell a plan we cannot stand behind. We are completing work with an additional operator and plans will return to this page as soon as that is live.

What to know about mobile data in Venezuela while we sell no plan

We do not sell a plan for Venezuela right now, and none of our regional plans include it, so there is nothing to buy on this page today. If you are going anyway, the local networks are Movilnet, Movistar and Digitel. Prepare for power cuts: in the 2019 blackouts, most of the country's telecoms went offline.

01 Can you buy a MegaEsim plan for Venezuela?

Not right now. We do not sell a Venezuela plan, and none of our regional plans include the country, so no plan on this site will give you data there.

Check your government's current travel advice before planning a trip. If you do go, treat mobile data as a useful tool rather than a guarantee.

02 Venezuela's three mobile operators

Venezuela has three mobile operators: Movilnet, a subsidiary of the state run CANTV, plus Movistar and Digitel. We do not sell a plan on any of them at the moment.

Some of the best known sights are remote. Angel Falls is in Canaima National Park, and reaching Canaima camp takes a flight from Maiquetia, Puerto Ordaz or Ciudad Bolivar, then a river trip to the falls. Save maps, bookings and contacts before you fly in.

03 Power cuts, and why they matter for your phone

Venezuela has had repeated nationwide blackouts, and mobile networks need power at the mast as well as at your hotel. During the July 2019 blackout, NetBlocks measured only 6% of the country's telecoms still working, so a signal can disappear for reasons that have nothing to do with your phone.

Keep devices charged whenever power is available, carry a power bank, and keep offline copies of maps, addresses and documents.

04 Local SIM cards for visitors

While we have no plan for Venezuela, a local prepaid line from Movilnet, Movistar or Digitel is one way to get mobile data there. Roaming on your home SIM is the other. Buy a local line from an official shop, and ask what they need from a foreign visitor before you queue.

Before you rely on roaming, ask your own provider whether it covers Venezuela and what it charges there per day or per megabyte.

05 What to save offline before you go

Whatever you use for data in Venezuela, plan as if it will drop at times.

Download offline maps for every area you plan to visit, plus your accommodation details and any confirmation documents. Do it on WiFi before you leave home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Venezuela eSIM.

No, not right now. We don't sell a plan for Venezuela, and none of our regional plans include it, so nothing on this site will give you data there today. The answers below cover the local networks, roaming and power cuts instead.

Three: Movilnet, Movistar and Digitel. Movilnet is a subsidiary of CANTV, the state run phone company. We don't sell a plan on any of the three, so a visitor's choices are a local prepaid line or roaming on a home SIM.

Don't count on it. Our country plans are sold for the country they are named after, and none of our plans, regional ones included, list Venezuela. So a Guyana plan, for example, shouldn't be relied on across the border. Arrange roaming or a local line before you cross.
