Oman data runs on Omantel, but install your plan before you fly

Yes, an eSIM works in Oman. Ours runs on Omantel at 5G, and Omantel took both coverage awards in Opensignal's January 2026 Oman report. Two local quirks matter: several travel eSIM websites have been hard to reach from inside Oman, so install before you fly, and internet calling apps have a patchy record there.

01 Omantel, Ooredoo or Vodafone: which one is your plan on?

Your plan uses Omantel. Opensignal's January 2026 report, based on October to December 2025 data, gave Omantel its Coverage Experience and 5G Coverage Experience awards outright. The other networks are Ooredoo, once called Nawras, and Vodafone, which launched as Oman's third operator at the turn of 2022.

Oman also finished switching off 3G in 2025. A phone now needs 4G or 5G to get any data, so a very old handset that only supports 3G will not connect. Our plan runs at 5G where Omantel has it and your phone supports it, and at 4G elsewhere.

02 Why buy and install before you fly to Oman?

Because the shop may not load once you arrive. Since December 2025, travellers have reported several big travel eSIM websites and apps failing to load inside Oman, according to Find Your eSIM's report, updated in March 2026. eSIMs that were already installed kept working as normal.

So buy it, scan the QR code and install it at home, then switch its data line on when you land in Muscat or Salalah.

03 Do WhatsApp calls work in Oman?

Sometimes, and nobody has confirmed it officially. Oman long restricted internet calling. In December 2024, Times of Oman reported that residents could make WhatsApp calls without a VPN, but the regulator, the TRA, announced no formal change. Test a call on your first day rather than relying on it.

Our Oman plans are data only, with no local number. If app calls fail and your home network roams in Oman, the home SIM left on in the same phone can still make a normal call at roaming rates. For more on this setup, see calls and texts on a data only eSIM.

04 Going to Musandam means passing through the UAE

Musandam, whose capital is Khasab, belongs to Oman but is cut off from the rest of the country by the UAE. By road you can only reach it from the Emirates, through Ras Al Khaimah or Dibba. Musandam counts as Oman for your plan; the UAE roads before the border do not.

If you are driving up from Dubai, add a UAE plan for that stretch and keep both eSIMs installed. Our Middle East plan also includes Oman, so check whether its country list covers the rest of your route.

05 Which plan suits a week in Oman, or a month?

Start with the length of your stay. A Muscat stopover needs very little, while a road trip down to Salalah needs room for maps, bookings and photo uploads. The unlimited plans give full speed up to 3 GB a day, then up to 1 Mbps until the next day starts.

  Plan Price
Muscat stopover, 2 to 4 days1 GB, 7 days$2.24
A week in the mountains and dunes3 GB, 15 days$5.88
Two to four weeks, including Salalah5 GB or 10 GB, 30 days$9.80 or $17.92
Heavy streaming for a week3 GB a day, unlimited, 7 days$48.02
A month of remote work20 GB or 50 GB, 30 days$32.90 or $77.78

If Oman is one stop on a wider Gulf trip, look at the Middle East plan, from $3.99 for 1 GB over 7 days. It saves juggling several eSIMs, as long as its country list covers your stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Oman eSIM.

Musandam is, but the UAE roads before it are not. Khasab and the rest of Musandam belong to Oman, so the plan works there once your phone joins Omantel. The only land routes run through the Emirates via Ras Al Khaimah or Dibba, so add a UAE plan for the drive to the border.

Opensignal's January 2026 Oman report, covering the last three months of 2025, gave Omantel both of its coverage awards. That is a national score, not a promise for every wadi or desert track, so save offline maps before a long drive inland.
