Denmark data on TDC and 3, plus Malmö day trips and the Faroes

Yes, an eSIM works in Denmark, and our plan can use two networks, TDC and 3, both listed with 5G. Denmark has switched off 3G entirely, so data runs on 4G and 5G. The edges are what catch people out: Malmö is across the bridge in Sweden, and the Faroe Islands sit outside the EU.

01 How good is coverage on TDC and 3?

Both networks run 4G and 5G across Denmark, and your phone uses whichever has the stronger signal where you are. TDC NET, which runs the TDC network and also carries YouSee's mobile plans, says the Danish Technological Institute measured its 5G coverage at 99.7%. It opened its 5G network on 7 September 2020.

The other big names are Telenor and Norlys, the new name for Telia Denmark since May 2025. Our Denmark plan doesn't use either of them.

Denmark no longer has any 3G. 3 was the last operator to switch it off, finishing on 1 December 2025. It says phones that only support 3G, such as the iPhone 5S and older, no longer work on its network. Any phone new enough for eSIM supports 4G, so this won't affect you.

02 Can one plan cover Copenhagen and Malmö?

Not the Denmark plan, which is sold for Denmark. Our Europe plan lists both Denmark and Sweden, so it is the easier pick if Malmö or southern Sweden is on your route. Øresund trains run every 15 to 20 minutes between Copenhagen, Kastrup airport and Malmö Central.

The bridge they cross is 16 km long. A 1 GB, 7 day Europe plan costs $1.99, against $1.29 for the same data and days on the Denmark plan.

If you land at Kastrup and head straight over the bridge, install the Europe plan before you fly. That way, your first connection at the airport starts the plan that also covers Sweden.

03 Do the Faroe Islands and Greenland count as Denmark for data?

No. Both belong to the Kingdom of Denmark, but the Faroe Islands are not in the EU and Greenland left it in 1985, so EU roaming rules do not reach them. Our Denmark plan does not cover them either, and neither does our Europe plan.

Each one has its own plan on our site. If the Faroes are part of your trip, add our Faroe Islands plan and keep both installed. The Faroe plan waits, unused, until it first connects in the Faroes.

04 Which apps need mobile data in Denmark?

Public transport tickets are the main one. Rejsebillet sells tickets and commuter passes for public transport across Denmark in one app, and you pay before you travel. According to the Copenhagen Metro, it replaces the old DOT Billetter app, which some older guides still mention.

Rejsekort's app works differently, letting you check in and out of each ride with a swipe. If your data drops at the wrong moment, every Metro station has ticket machines. Set up whichever app you choose and add a payment card before you land, rather than on a platform with a train pulling in.

05 Which Denmark plan matches your trip?

For most city breaks a fixed plan is enough, since maps, tickets and messages use little data. Unlimited plans come in two strengths. You get full speed up to 1 GB or up to 3 GB per day, then up to 1 Mbps for the rest of that day.

Trip Plan Price
Airport layover or one busy dayUnlimited, 1 day, 3 GB a day at full speed$2.38
Copenhagen weekend1 GB, 7 days$1.29
A week, light use3 GB, 15 days$2.10
A week, heavy useUnlimited, 7 days, 3 GB a day at full speed$16.66
A month of travel10 GB, 30 days$5.99
A semester or long work stay50 GB, 180 days$30.80

The 50 GB plan runs for 180 days, the longest validity we sell for Denmark. If your trip mixes Denmark with other countries, the Europe plan saves you juggling two lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Denmark eSIM.

Either one. Our Denmark plan can use TDC and 3, both listed with 5G, and your phone joins whichever signal is stronger where you are. TDC NET says the Danish Technological Institute measured its 5G coverage at 99.7%. Telenor and Norlys, the former Telia, are not part of this plan.

No. 3 finished closing Denmark's last 3G network on 1 December 2025, after the other operators had already shut theirs. Phones that only support 3G, such as the iPhone 5S and older models, no longer connect. Any phone that takes an eSIM also supports 4G, so our plan is unaffected.

No. Both belong to the Kingdom of Denmark but sit outside the EU, and neither our Denmark plan nor our Europe plan covers them. The Faroe Islands and Greenland each have their own plan on our site. Install the Faroe plan before you fly, and it waits unused until it connects there.
